Research is an area of emerging significance within the Department of Family and Community Medicine. This is in keeping with an emphasis established early on throughout the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Michigan State University, and the greater Osteopathic Profession.
Our faculty support the belief espoused by family physician, Dr. John Geyman, that there are numerous benefits for research in family medicine, including “…increased quality of teaching programs, expansion of the body of knowledge which family physicians will teach, an ongoing stimulus for continuing medical education, increased patient satisfaction, and most importantly, better health care for their patients and their families.” A broad range of research undertakings apply to the discipline of family medicine. Current departmental projects and recent faculty publications exemplify this rich variety.
With the continued development of research as a scholarly component of the Department of Family and Community Medicine, it is the goal of our faculty to continually integrate research into their educational and clinical endeavors.
